REEMPLOYMENT / Public Organizations
Finding a second life to lost property from Ayuntamiento de Madrid.
The city council of Madrid, specifically the Lost Property Office, was looking for a way outside a dumpster to handle over 4000 lost assets, including furniture, personal property and computers that had no owner or use.
A sustainable challenge.
How to extend the life of 4000 items that would otherwise end up in a dumpster in less than two weeks?
A circular solution.
As experts in reemployment solutions, at SURUS we implemented a transparent and agile circular asset management plan in order to find a home -through an auction- for the property of the Lost Property Office.
Process
1. Fulfilling requirements from the city council
Thanks to our knowhow in circular responsibility applied to public organizations, we could fulfill the requirements from the city council in terms of transparency, solvency and legal certifications. We certified our experience in circular auction and the technical capacity of our online platform to manage the auction and attend hundreds of thousands of visits.
Process
2.Optimizing reemployment potential for 4848 assets
Prior to the reemployment of all assets from the Lost Property Office, SURUS took all assets from Almacén de la Villa to our facilities in order to remove personal information -in a certified way- of all objects and computer equipment.
Once they were ready to be sold, all 4848 assets were documented with pictures in order to upload the information and facilitate the process.
Process
3.A very transparent auction
We organized a showroom were all items were exhibited. More than 350 people came in order to verify the features of all objects and inquire about the way to get them.
Several auctions were held through Escrapalia. Depending on the type of asset, they were organized individually or in lots. The city council determined the starting price. Some of the items were:
-Apple products
-Musical instruments
-Gadgets
-Sunglasses
-Jewelry
Process
4.Closing the circle for the city council
The auctions extended the life cycle of all assets that SURUS managed. After the reemployment process, we finished the circular management by recycling the material of those items that were unfit for a sale.
SURUS also managed the delivery of all assets to the buyers before making a final report describing the sustainable value generated through this circular auction.
Results
150% higher value than the requested by the city council.
100% reemployment of assets managed by SURUS:
0% waste generated through the project.
